说起奥斯卡·王尔德，你会想到什么？诙谐的段子手，雄辩的演说家，放纵的艺术家，天才的剧作家，唯美主义的代言人，浮夸的时尚达人，玩世不恭的花花公子，名留史册的男同性恋……放心，这些标签你在本片中都能轻松找到，甚至在开场短短三分钟的美国演讲之旅中就能初见端倪。本片改编自普利策获奖传记文学，主要聚焦王尔德和波西（即阿尔弗雷德·道格拉斯勋爵）的四年恋情（1891-1895年）以及由此引发的审判。两人差16岁，曾先后就读于牛津大学莫德林学院；同为诗人的他们在相处时却无暇创作，而是只谈风月共赴云雨。两人的约会模式一般就是购物、吃饭、开房，后来发展到一起嫖（男）妓或王尔德在一旁窥淫，所有费用皆由老王出。这种关系即使搁今天也惊世骇俗，更何况是在维多利亚时期的英国，更何况王尔德还有老婆孩子，更何况波西的父亲欲置其死地而后快。当王尔德在法庭上慷慨陈词着“The love that dare not speak its name”（出自波西的诗，后来泛指同性之爱或禁忌之恋），也就只有同为他恋人的Robbie被感动，大众和陪审团则嗤之以鼻。王尔德后来在狱中写了著名的《自深深处》，回顾和反思了自己与波西的这段感情。从旁观者角度看，这种大叔小鲜肉之间依赖金钱输出的关系显然难以长久甚至有些病态，但在一个开放的社会中，这应属于道德而非法律介入的范畴。影片最后一个镜头是王尔德在出狱后与波西在意大利重逢，意在给观众留下美好。现实中两人确实后来又共同生活了几个月，但因双方家庭的极力反对而不得不最终分道扬镳。出狱仅三年后，王尔德就在贫病交加的流放岁月中去世，享年46岁。王尔德晚年的悲剧固然离不开他挥金如土放荡不羁的生活方式，但更是因为他的性取向为时代所不容。他说，“我们都在水沟里。但有些人会仰望星空。”他说，“很少有人生活。大部分人只是生存。”至少，他是那个真正活过、仰望星空的人。

斯蒂芬·弗雷的大高个（超过一米九）和大长脸都跟王尔德如出一辙，更何况他本人也是同性恋、作家、和天生的演讲者/主持人。他从小就把王尔德当偶像，这次的演绎堪称完美，可惜提名了金球奖但没得。对了，你认出第10分钟马路对面的站街男妓奥兰多·布鲁姆了吗（有一句台词“Looking for someone?”）？那是他的电影处子秀。
