这片的制作之精良简直让人不敢相信它是满月出品！凡是经过戈登之手的文字，无论原作多么严肃在他这儿都会变成黑色幽默，爱手艺、大卫马梅都是如此，那爱伦坡自然也不会例外。与罗杰·科曼类似，戈登对《陷坑与钟摆》的改编同样大刀阔斧，故事只保留了字面上的“陷坑”和“钟摆”，而强化了在原作中几乎只是背景的西班牙宗教法庭。幽默的台词完全罔顾时代、地点，神迹与女巫显灵（爱创造奇迹！）齐飞的爆炸性高潮更是完全疯狂，作为讽刺剧极具娱乐性。
